LUNAR'S HISTORY

LUNAR was set up in 2021 following the COVID-19 pandemic in response to the psychological distress which many experienced due to the worldwide catastrophe. LUNAR was founded by Nadia Daniels, a psychiatrist with 20 years of experience working in the mental health department for the NHS. Daniels witnessed the influx of patients and development of waiting lists due to the effects of the UK lockdown on society and decided something needed to be done. As seeking additional funding for NHS support can prove a challenge, Daniels decided to bring together a team of fellow medical professionals on a voluntary basis to develop a system providing aid to those who were being denied immediate support.

LUNAR was developed from a set of values which are aimed to be the backbone of all the support the charity provides. These values are:

LEARN - To educate society on areas of mental health in order to

UNDERSTAND the behaviours and symptoms of ourselves and those around us.

NURTURE- To show how to care for and protect others and practise self-love.

ACCEPT- Highlighting the importance of accepting the needs and opinions of others.

RESPECT- To show respect for the choices, needs and lifestyles of others in order to create a fairer society.

Since 2021, LUNAR has expanded from its small network to a wider online community, with a permanent hub located in central London. The charity is continuously providing support to people in the UK through a wide range of forms including online community groups, skills workshops, informative talks and mindfulness activity classes. The charity is funded predominantly through donations and fundraisers.
